Enva reopens Leicester recycling facility

We’re delighted to have given recycling in the East Midlands a significant boost following the reopening of our newly redeveloped Wesley Street recycling facility, located close to the heart of Leicester city centre.

We have taken the opportunity to modernise much of the site’s recycling equipment following a fire in December 2021. This investment will increase the processing capacity to around 150,000 tonnes per year while also increasing the amount of material that can be recovered and recycled.  It will also reduce the turnaround time for customers delivering waste and create an even better working environment for our employees.

“We’re delighted to be reopening our state-of-the-art recycling facility on Wesley Street and look forward to once again helping our customers to more sustainably manage the waste they produce. Recovering valuable secondary resources from waste is vital to the manufacture of more sustainable products and helps to develop a more circular economy.”  Said Enva’s Strategic Development Director, Paul Needham.

The Wesley Street site processes waste for many of our customers in the region including Leicestershire County Council and Leicester University. Processing both construction and commercial waste, the facility recovers and recycles a range of materials including plastics, wood, paper, cardboard and aggregates. In doing so, it diverts over 85% of the waste it manages from landfill. Waste that cannot be effectively recycled or reused is manufactured into waste derived fuels. These are then used in the generation of sustainable energy and by energy intensive industries such as the manufacture of cement.
