Landfill holds no appeal for label manufacturer

Leicestershire based label manufacturer, Label Apeel, has achieved zero waste to landfill in just under one year of working with Enva.

Established in early 1990 Label Apeel is a family owed business which has now employs over 45 dedicated labels experts with a turnover of £4 million.

The partnership approach and commitment to waste reduction has seen Label Apeel review the amount of waste it generates.

Improved segregation has also been implemented for waste that cannot be eliminated.  This includes cardboard and plastic packaging which is now baled and provides an additional source of income.  All recyclable materials and general waste are processed at Enva’s flagship recycling facility to optimise recycling and recovery levels.

Waste that cannot be recycled is used in the production of Solid Recovered Fuel. This provides a cost effective and highly sustainable alternative to traditional fossil fuels.

Enva and Label Apeel have also worked to source sustainable solutions for other harder to manage material such as skeleton manufacturing waste. This is now blended with other materials at Enva's recycling facility and incorporated into the SRF manufacturing process.

Commenting on reaching the zero waste to landfill milestone Enva’s Commercial Director, Paul Clements, said: “It’s a privilege to be able to work with such an ambitious company and support them in reaching their environmental objectives. We look forward to continuing to develop the relationship in order to further reduce waste arisings and develop circular solutions for the by-products of these fantastic products.”

Label Apeel’s environmental commitment and recycling performance was recognised with a Love Recycling award in 2020.
