Angela Rayner visits Enva wood recycling facility

Following Enva’s recent announcement that it has now manufactured over a third of a million tonnes of its market leading poultry bedding product – easichick - the company welcomed the Deputy Leader of the Labour Party and MP for Ashton-under-Lyne, Angela Rayner, to its manufacturing facility in Droylsden, Greater Manchester. 

During the visit, which included a tour of easichick’s biosecure manufacturing facility, the Enva management team discussed a range of issues with Mrs Rayner. These included the vital role biosecure bedding has to play in the battle against avian flu and the importance of ensuring waste wood is included in the new UK Biomass Strategy. 

Commenting on the visit Enva Wood’s Managing Director, Tim Price, said: “I’d like to thank Mrs Rayner for taking the time to visit Enva and taking such an interest in the UK wood recycling and biomass market. The role biosecure bedding has to play in controlling the spread of avian flu has not yet been fully recognised and its vital we help UK growers to understand its benefits.  

We are also at a critical crossroads for the UK biomass market. We must ensure the continued fiscal support for waste wood when the UK biomass strategy is published. Its omission would result in us losing the environmental value of this material when used to generate sustainable energy and miss the opportunity to support the UK in its journey to net zero by 2050.”

Angela, Labour’s Deputy Leader, added: “It was great to visit the site and meet the team to hear about what they do and their plans for the future. Enva is a great local employer and I was so pleased to hear that they take on local apprentices – that’s a real boost for my constituency. I would like to thank the team for showing me around, I really enjoyed the visit!” 

Enva’s wood division operates three facilities located in Manchester, Essex, Middlesbrough. Employing 170 people the company processes over 300,000 tonnes of waste wood a year diverting 100% of the processed material from landfill.
