Enva celebrates partnership with CIH (Euronics) to deliver sustainable e-waste recycling for independent retailers

Enva, one of the UK and Ireland’s leading recycling and resource recovery specialists, has developed a strategic partnership with Combined Independent Holdings Ltd (CIH), part of Euronics, Europe’s largest electrical buying group, operating in 37 countries with a turnover of €19 billion. The initiative provides CIH’s 450 members, representing over 1,000 stores across the UK and Ireland, with a simple, compliant, and cost-effective solution for the collection, reuse, and recycling of e-waste.
As part of their ongoing commitment to supporting independent retailers, CIH identified the need to ensure all members were managing e-waste responsibly under their take-back policies. The collaboration with Enva not only safeguards compliance and brand reputation but also brings significant commercial savings and environmental benefits to members.
Through the scheme, stores can self-service by arranging collections directly with Enva’s dedicated customer service team. Over 350 members have already signed up, praising both the efficiency of the system and the professionalism of Enva staff.
Appliances are subsequently transported to Enva’s refurbishment and recycling facilities across the UK. Here, white goods such as fridges, freezers, and washing machines are assessed and classified according to their condition and quality. Wherever possible, Enva’s team of engineers refurbish a range of appliances, including other large domestic items like cookers. Any appliances that cannot be restored are processed for recycling to recover their component parts. The refurbished appliances are then made available to Enva’s charity partners via an online ordering system.
Enva’s, Managing Director, e-Waste and Glass, Barry Phillips, commented on the partnership saying: “We value our close partnership with CIH and are committed to providing their members with a simple, efficient e-waste recycling service. Our focus is on maximising both economic and environmental benefits through the prioritisation of refurbishment and reuse. CIH will also continue to benefit from Enva’s ongoing investment in cutting-edge recycling infrastructure."
James Bevens, Operations Director, CIH, said, “This partnership reflects our commitment to helping independent retailers operate responsibly and sustainably. By working with Enva, we’re ensuring that e-waste is managed compliantly while also delivering real commercial benefits to our members. Together, we’re building a future where doing the right thing for the environment also makes good business sense.”
This partnership underlines CIH’s wider strategy to support members in reducing their environmental impact while enhancing their competitiveness in the marketplace.
