Photoionisation Systems

Enva is the U.K. and Irish agent for Neutralox, a specialist manufacturer of cutting-edge odour control equipment. Neutralox provides a treatment technology that utilises ultraviolet light. It does not require chemicals, has a small footprint, low operational and maintenance costs and is not sensitive to varying loads.

Photoionisation systems

Neutralox works by photoionisation. Strong oxidising agents are produced by UV light which oxidises odorous substances in the presence of a catalyst.

Photoionisation systems work by applying high intensity ultraviolet (UV) light and using specialised catalysts to effectively remove certain odours from contaminated air. These systems have the added benefit of disinfecting the air, while also using no chemicals, less power, and taking up less space than other conventional treatment options.

NEUTRALOX® photoionisation for off-gas treatment and odour control

Typical applications are,

  • Sewage pump stations, lift stations, vacuum stations
  • Headworks, screen buildings, influent channels
  • Sludge holding tanks, thickeners
  • Sludge dryers, ATADs
  • Dewatering buildings
  • Waste water treatment

Neutralox systems also have industrial applications, which – due to manufacturing processes - can cause odour issues to the local environment.

The equipment is high grade steel, of modular build and delivered as pre-mounted compact units. Required footprint is small and the energy demand is considerably low. Systems are designed to keep maintenance and operation requirements to a minimum and offer high reliability.

Pilot units are available for on-site testing and evaluation. To find out more, or to arrange a trial, please contact us.

Photoionisation is a method of effective and reliable elimination of odours. Photoionisation is mostly used for treatment of odours released by waste, wastewater (sewage) and wastewater sludge. The technology has been used successfully in the market for more than 15 years.

Photoionisation basically describes the oxidation of substances under radiation of UV light in the presence of catalysts. The photoionisation process produces strong oxidizing agents via UV light ionisation. These agents oxidize the odorous substances in presence of catalysts.

NEUTRALOX photoionisation technologies are based on the production of oxidants, which are utilised directly or with the help of catalysts for oxidation of odour compounds and other pollutants. The high grade equipment is very effective and reliable. The dependency on external resources and conditions is considerably low.

Enva offers expert services and products across the entire municipal and industrial waste water treatment process, from the reception of waste waters right the way through to final treated effluent. Our customers benefit from this deep knowledge and product range, backed up by our comprehensive and fully accredited water labs.

We have a range of odour abatement solutions, depending on the source and root cause of odour emission, to help companies remain compliant with their site licence requirements.

  • Air scrubbing systems
  • Photo-ionisation systems
  • Activated carbon
  • Odour control misting & dosing systems
  • Odour control chemicals

An odour management and monitoring plan can act as both a statement of intent to manage odours on site, as well as an instruction manual for management and employees that can be consulted whenever necessary. A good plan will integrate odour management into daily routine, so procedures for the management of potential odour issues become second nature to site staff.
