Contaminated Soils

Enva specialise in the treatment and recovery of contaminated soils across the UK & Ireland. Our facilities can accept soils and sludges containing a wide range of contaminants including diesel, petrol, kerosene, coal tar, PAHS, PFAS, heavy metals and asbestos. Enva also offers expert management processes to combat the increasing rise of invasive plant species such as Japanese Knotweed in construction and development sites.

Soil Samples

Representative soil samples are taken for analysis and the soils are classified as hazardous, non-hazardous or inert. Based on the classification the soil is assigned a EWC code and our soil testing experts recommend the appropriate treatment or recovery process.

These include:

  • Bioremediation
  • Physico-chemical treatment
  • Stabilisation
  • Thermal Treatment
  • Soil & Aggregate Washing
  • Treatment and recovery results in the production of recycled topsoil and subsoils.

Our investment in a new soil washing plant and water treatment system at our main soils treatment facility in Portlaoise is the first and only of its kind in Ireland, and combines water immersion with mechanical processing to separate contaminated soils and other suitable feedstocks into different particle size fractions. Soil Treatment and Site Decontamination

Enva is the leading provider of soil treatment and site decontamination services in Ireland, currently handling approximately 200,000 tonnes per annum of hazardous and non-hazardous contaminated soils from construction projects and emergency clean up incidents across the island.

Enva recently invested €1.5 million in a new soil washing plant and water treatment system at its main soils treatment facility in Portlaoise. The first and only of its kind in Ireland, the washplant combines water immersion with mechanical processing to separate contaminated soils and other suitable feedstocks into different particle size fractions. The treatment facility currently processes approx. 50,000 tonnes per annum.

The new washplant allows Enva to:

  • Sustainably recover valuable washed aggregate fractions (sand, grit, stone) for re-use in construction, promoting the circular economy and reducing the quarrying of virgin products
  • Avoid the unsustainable landfilling of contaminated soils
  • Reduce the unsustainable export of Hazardous and Non-Hazardous soils out of Ireland for treatment or landfilling in mainland Europe
  • Offer a secure, local and cost-effective soil recovery solution for our large construction and municipal customers.

Our customers are increasingly looking for innovative and long-term sustainable recovery solutions. Enva is uniquely positioned to partner with our customers to improve their environmental KPI’s and achieve their sustainability goals whilst ensuring best price and compliance are not compromised.
