Lead Acid Batteries

Lead acid batteries are one of the earliest types of rechargeable batteries. Developed in the 1800s, they still have advantages over newer technologies being low cost, robust and reliable.

Nationwide lead acid battery collection and recycling service

Their wide-ranging applications benefit diverse environments;

  • Starting batteries e.g. automotive engines – starting, lighting and ignition, found in garages and dealerships.
  • Dry cell stand-by (stationary) batteries – back up critical power supplies in case of power failure – hospitals, data centres, prisons, police stations, telephone masts, large office buildings, emergency lighting, security and fire alarms, sump pumps. Also used for energy storage in solar and wind turbine farms, and transport aviation, rail and marine settings.
  • Traction (propulsion) batteries – battery powered electric vehicles, e.g. golf buggies, airport electric baggage tractor, agricultural vehicles, scooters, wheelchairs, forklifts, pallet trucks - whether in a recreational, commercial, transport or industrial setting.

As an end of life lead acid battery facility, Enva provide a complete battery recycling service for all types of lead acid batteries, using the latest technology to enable us to extract 99.5% of lead ready for re-use in the production of batteries and other lead-based products.

We provide our customers with a convenient nationwide collection service, underpinned by our network of depots and fleet throughout the UK and Ireland. We supply customers with approved containers for the safe storage of used batteries. Batteries are then transported in accordance with ADR regulations and waste management legislation to our licensed facilities for compliant disposal.

Customers have access to our online portal which provides important information on their battery collections, including waste movements and weights. Customers also have direct access to compliance information via the portal for environmental agency audits – providing full traceability. Uplifts and collections can also be requested via the portal.

Supported by our knowledgeable and friendly team, we are on hand to answer any queries you may have – whether online, email or by phone – with advice on safe battery storage, collection, disposal and recycling.

Trust Enva to seamlessly manage your lead acid battery collections and recycling – a cost effective, fully traceable, compliant recycling solution. Please contact our team direct for a one off or scheduled collection quote.

Recyclable elements of a lead acid battery

  1. Lead terminals - the lead is used for new batteries and other lead products
  2. Electrolyte or acid - goes for acid reclamation and ends up used for fertilizer, chemical production, sodium sulphate production or neutralisation and pre-treatment for discharge.
  3. Internal plates - again, the lead is used for new batteries and other lead products
  4. Plastic container - goes to plastic recycling and gets reused in plastic products
We have produced a useful guide for Battery Identification and Disposal, which shows three simple steps required for battery collection. Our knowledgeable team of battery experts is also on hand to answer any queries you may have – whether online, email or by phone – relating to safe storage, collection, disposal or recycling.
