Waste Electrical (WEEE) Recycling Services
Every year an estimated 2 million tonnes of WEEE items are discarded by householders and companies in the UK. This amount of incorrectly disposed waste can cause serious damage to the environment and contribute to the harmful levels of waste already overwhelming landfill sites around the country.

What is a WEEE item?
The acronym ‘WEEE’ can be broken down into ‘Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment’. This category of waste includes a large majority of products that have a plug or need a battery.
There are ten broad categories of WEEE currently outlined within the Regulations (see Schedules 1 and 2 of the Regulations), namely:
Large household appliances. This covers domestic appliances such fridges, cookers, microwaves, washing machines and dishwashers.
Small household appliances. This includes domestic appliances such as vacuum cleaners, irons, toasters and clocks.
IT and telecommunications equipment. Such as personal computers, copying equipment, telephones and pocket calculators, etc.
Consumer and technological equipment. This covers radios, televisions, hi-fi equipment, camcorders and musical instruments.
Lighting equipment. straight and compact fluorescent tubes and high intensity discharge lamps.
Electrical and electronic tools. This includes equipment such as drills, saws and sewing machines, electric lawnmowers.
Motor or battery operated toys. This also covers leisure/recreational kits such as electric trains, games consoles and educational sets. Electrical sports and gym equipment such as running machines, cross trainers and electric bikes are included also, as well as the batteries themselves.
High tech medical devices. This describes (non-infected) dialysis machines, analysers, medical freezers and cardiology equipment.
Domestic monitoring and control equipment. E.g. smoke detectors, thermostats and heating regulators, etc.…
Automatic and electric dispensers. This includes hot food or drinks dispensers and money dispensers.
Any electrical item not included in this list might be categorised differently, and so would require a different form of collection and disposal.
