Exit Week

Are you ready to move out?

Exit Week:

Hello, and congratulations! We are now approaching the end of another year at university! You made it! But before you get to the plaudits from friends and family at home, a nice long break from exams and deadlines, and maybe some summer sun.  You first must deal with leaving your university accommodation. Because you have found your way to this blog post we are sure that you will want to do this in the most sustainable way possible.

From a waste management perspective, we would always advice you to consider the waste hierarchy to be sustainable. Do you really need to throw away your duvet? Could that bundle of clothes you don’t want be a staple in somebody else’s wardrobe? Finally, are you disposing of the waste you need to get rid of is the correct waste stream? This is hopefully where we can help you out! In this blog we are going to offer some tips and tricks to make your moving out experience easier on you and hopefully on us as well.

Number One: Bin etiquette.

As students living in a shared accommodation, you also share waste disposal options, and nothing will lose you friends faster than a poorly packed bin… Okay maybe that’s not true… But not being able to use your recycling bins because someone doesn’t know how to flatten a cardboard box is certainly frustrating! Please try your best to pack your waste effectively so as much waste as possible can be put into the correct bin.

Number Two: Correct Waste streams.

Even when at the end of the event there is often a holiday, packing is still known for being very stressful. Even more so when you’re packing up your entire life. To ease this stress, we recommend starting your packing process with as much time as possible.

We also advise beginning this process with two waste disposal bags at the ready, one for your general waste and one for your dry mixed recycling. Hopefully this should prevent you ending up with one gigantic bag containing every deodorant can, every crisp packet and your Christmas jumper all pushed inside.

Number Three. Food Waste.

We all have grand ideas in the supermarket and occasionally those grand ideas end up sat at the back of the fridge until the end of the year. When it comes to moving out, sadly, something that we find occurs frequently is incorrect disposal of food waste. Because there is so much waste created in these final days at university it is more important than ever to make sure that both our general waste & Our recycling remain uncontaminated by food waste.

The less contamination our waste faces the more likely it is that Enva can process these materials in the most sustainable way possible.

Thank you for taking the time to read our blog page. Congratulations on all your hard work this year, have a great summer!
