University Student Societies

Student societies are a great example of students demonstrating a genuine shared interest in a University’s Sustainability and Social Impact Team’s work. This can help to embed behavioural changes and create a lasting influence on its members, along with offering the staff teams a valuable insight into the students’ ideas, values and concerns.
University of Leicester – Plan-It Change
Brand new for the academic year 2018-19, Plan-It Change is a combination of two former societies – Hungry 4 Change and Environmental Action. The new society aims to encompass all the Sustainable Development Goals using campaigns, activities and workshops throughout the year, which all students will have the chance to get involved in.
Creating this one society to cover a wider range of issues than before, gives students even more scope to act on areas they’re passionate about and make a real difference, both at the University and beyond.
The Social Impact Team and Enva will help to develop student ideas into worthwhile projects through funding/awards schemes and professional advice.
University of Nottingham – Sustainability
The Sustainability Society aims to unite like-minded individuals who are interested in the concept and practice of sustainability, sustainable living, and those who want to simply get involved and make an individual difference.
Throughout the year, the society hosts a calendar of events to promote and act on sustainable practices and ideas along with some social events. Not only do they work closely with the University to improve sustainability on campus, they also:
- Volunteer in the local community
- Hold careers’ evenings
- Host talks from guest speakers
- Organise residential trips, social nights out and meals
The over-arching aim of the society is to support long-lasting behavioural change and to create a sustainability-aware university community.
