Love Recycling Awards

Love Recycling Awards

Businesses, charities and public sector organisations that love recycling are encouraged to enter a new awards scheme. East Midlands waste management company, Wastecycle, came up with awards last year but entry was restricted to its customers. This year, Wastecycle’s management team want to widen the focus of the awards.

The Love Recycling Awards celebrate the efforts of organisations which have reduced their waste, reused materials destined for the bin or increased their recycling rates.

“Last year we wanted to celebrate the fantastic results that Wastecycle and its customers achieved in reducing the amount of waste that goes to landfill, the reduction in the miles our collection vehicles travel, and the increased recycling productivity we’ve achieved through working in partnership. The Love Recycling Awards said thank you to our customers and the people within those organisations that played a significant role in influencing the company’s overall sustainability performance.

“Last year’s awards were so well received that this time around we’ve decided to open them up to any company, charity or public sector organisation across Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire and Derbyshire that has done its part of safeguard the environment.”

To enter, all people have to do is email a 300-word entry to loverecyclingawards@wastecycle.co.uk outlining the problem they faced, the innovative solution they implemented and the results of their efforts in reducing waste, increasing recycling or the reuse of materials.

There are three main categories in the Love Recycling Awards: Waste Reduction, Waste Reuse and Waste Recycling although all entries with a waste management theme will be accepted.

Entries need to be submitted by Friday 9th February, with the winners being announced on 14th February.

Last year’s winners included Ian Farrow at high-quality kitchen appliance manufacturer CDA in Langar. Ian has ensured cardboard, plastic, timber and dry mixed recycling from the canteen were separated for collection; introduced processes to reduce the number of transport visits Wastecycle make to site thereby reducing CO2 emissions; training warehouse staff on recycling procedures and achieving a 99% diversion rate meaning only 1% of CDA’s waste goes to landfill.
