Operations Manager

Operations Manager - The Role:

  • To ensure the safe, efficient and effective day to day running of the waste transfer station and waste derived fuel production process for Enva England Specialist Waste
  • To oversee and manage efficient day to day operational aspects of waste transfer station and waste derived fuel production process. Coordinate and ensure consistent priorities and performance across departmental supervisors
  • Specific focus will include operational safety and efficiency, personnel development and performance, project management, asset performance and maintenance, change control process, supplier and contractor safety performance. Ensure all operations are documented within management systems including ISO9001, 14001 and 45001.

Operations Manager - Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee waste receipt and transfer, waste treatment operation and analytical activities 
• Ensure compliance with our Environmental Permit
• Maintaining the highest standards of health and safety, promoting a positive health and safety culture at all times
• Responsibility for day to day efficient performance management of operational activities  
• Working closely with the Transport team, ensuring that all loads are carried out on time and in full with a customer service focus
• Responsibility for maintaining operational performance in line with cost budget
• Responsibility for performance and review of operational procedures and risk assessments
• Review, document and direct, change control process to ensure robust documentation and record keeping for all operational asset modifications
• Maintaining and improving department performance levels to maximise efficiency of production and yard operations in line with departments KPI's
• Improving the operational systems, processes and policies
• Responsible for planning, programming and coordination of site activities
• Coordinate on site operational projects to ensure consistent priorities and approach for departmental supervisors
• Deliver accurate reports on service delivery and performance as required
• Responsibility for asset management and maintenance, including responsibility for register of safety critical equipment
• Ensure an effective planned preventative maintenance programme is in place  
• Responsibility for performance and activity of on-site contractors and suppliers
• Review of on site near misses/ incidents in order to establish and implement learning and best practices
• Ensure all staff are trained to work safely on site and carry out specified operational tasks
• Maintain a clean and safe working environment
• Liaise with and maintain good relations with client staff, contractors and visitors to the site
• Communicate company standards to staff at all levels, monitor and enforce
• Be a key member of the management team supporting wider strategy discussions
• Any other duties as required

People Management 

• Managing and implementing strategies and training to maintain a productive, highly skilled and motivated workforce
• Accountable for the performance management and development of employees within defined area of responsibility, including completion of reviews within Performance Review Process and supporting the use of Individual Development Plans 
• Responsible for all aspects of resource management within defined area of responsibility, including planning, resourcing and recruitment
• Manage all aspects of employee related budgets and headcount plans ensuring balance between cost efficiencies and work requirements
• Adherence to the Company’s Health and Safety Policy ensuring all employees, within areas of responsibility, are compliant

Required

• Good conflict resolution skills based on a ‘Can do’ attitude
• Must demonstrate high levels of integrity and adopt a professional approach in all     interactions – should be transparent, open and honest in all dealings
• Experience in implementing lean production
• Experience in implementing kaizen in production management
• NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent) as a minimum, experience with operational safety including completion of risk assessments and procedural documentation
• WAMITAB COTC Hazardous Waste Treatment and/ or Transfer
• Experience of asset management/ maintenance
• Experience of managing/ implementing change control processes
• Strong PC and technical knowledge and skills with a good working knowledge of the Microsoft packages including Word and Excel

Desirable

• Experience working within waste industry most desirable, however, alternate industries (manufacturing, oil, gas, fuel, food) with relevant experience will be considered
• Experience of behavioural safety/ culture change
• Degree level qualified (or equivalent)
